Finally, got a chance to try ramen at Ikkyu Ramen in Boca (located in Shadowood Square next to Dave’s Hot Chicken). Small but nicely decorated inside. There are bar seatings, inside tables as well as outside seatings. Menu is pretty straightforward, 3-4 types of broth for ramen, fried rice, yakisoba, appetizers boba milk teas and couple of desserts. You’ll either have to order using the QR code at the table or order and pay at the register. We ordered one Taro boba milk tea, the steamed chicken gyoza, the karaage (fried chicken), tonkutsu ramen with the chicken katsu upcharge, and spicy tonkutsu ramen. Both the appetizers were pretty quick to come out with a nice spacing between for the ramen. The broth of both ramen were very rich and tasty!! Good amount of ramen and meat. And the taro milk tea was good and not too sweet. My daughter love the ramen here!! We will be back!!

I’ve been here so many times, I went here once again, the ramen I had tonight was the best I’ve ever had. The food is 100/10, the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. I went a little later in the night so it was quite and peaceful which I enjoyed. The nice woman at the front was super friendly. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone who needs a ramen spot. Only thing I would recommend is eating in, that’s just my preference, because I think it taste better, but regardless the meal is amazing either way (I’ve done both). I’m writing this while the experience is still fresh, unfortunately not in a good way. I came across Ikkyu Ramen & Bubble Tea on Instagram earlier today. Their videos looked so appetizing that I suggested we go there for dinner to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We were genuinely excited and arrived hungry, with pretty high expectations after seeing their social media. From the outside, the first thing that caught my attention was the messy half-raised blinds, which honestly made the place look abandoned, like it had been cleared out in a rush. Once we noticed how busy it was, we assumed the food must be worth it. Inside, the café is small but has some thoughtful decor details. I liked the painted drum-style stools near the entrance, the decorative fan wall by the counter, and a cozy corner further inside where we sat. You can tell someone put effort into refreshing the design, and visually some parts are very charming. Ordering happens at the front counter, and you pay upfront. We ordered the Black Tonkotsu ramen, Classic Tonkotsu ramen, Crispy Bao Buns (pork belly), beef broth soup for our younger daughter, spaghetti for our older daughter, edamame, and two bubble teas (lavender and Oreo). Service was fairly quick, especially considering there appeared to be only one young woman handling everything — taking orders, preparing drinks, and serving tables — while one man worked in the kitchen. She was clearly overwhelmed because the café got packed very quickly. Honestly, they really need at least one more person helping at the front. While waiting, I started noticing how dirty everything looked. The floors, the walls, the door frames all had visible grime buildup. The dishes were plastic and looked poorly cleaned, with streaks and marks on them. The forks were so thin and flimsy they felt almost disposable. The food was the biggest disappointment. Both of my kids refused to eat after trying it (although my younger daughter did like the beef broth). The ramen lacked the rich, satisfying flavor we expected, and overall everything tasted underwhelming. My husband did enjoy the Crispy Bao Bun, but I personally found it too dry — I prefer bao much softer. One moment that really stood out was while our bubble teas were being made. I wanted to film an aesthetic video because they looked beautiful online, but that quickly changed. The employee kept moving the drinks between stations, stopping repeatedly to take new orders, then at one point picked up the prepared drinks and crouched down with them to access what I assume was a mini fridge on the floor. I understand small spaces can be difficult to work in, but from a customer’s perspective it looked awkward and unprofessional. The workflow clearly isn’t set up efficiently. This place is busy, so people must enjoy it, and I do appreciate the effort that went into making parts of it visually appealing. But for us, the cleanliness issues, disorganized service setup, and disappointing food made this a very underwhelming birthday dinner experience. Giving 1 star only because the decor has potential. Very disappointing overall.

Long waiting time and no one really seemed to care. Everything feels very slow and relaxed, maybe too relaxed. If you have plenty of time and don’t mind waiting, this place might be fine. The food is okay, but the service and wait time definitely take away from the experience. Slightly negative overall mainly because of the waiting.

Every time I visit IKKYU, I am reminded why it is my go-to spot in Boca Raton. The consistency here is truly impressive; the food is always incredibly tasteful and prepared with care. Whether you're going for ramen, rice bowls (beef teriyaki is my favorite) or their traditional dishes, the flavors are authentic and fresh. What I appreciate most is the atmosphere. The ambiance is quiet and peaceful, which is a refreshing change of pace. It has a specific charm that reminds me of a casual Japanese restaurant in Kyoto—unpretentious, welcoming, and centered entirely on the quality of the meal. If you are looking for a genuine Japanese dining experience without the loud, frantic energy of a typical fusion spot, IKKYU is a hidden gem.
